We all want a litter free coast and sea with clean bathing water and here at The Marlboro we are massive supporters of this campaign. There are a multitude of reasons why clean beaches are important to Dorset and East Devon. Not only do they support a healthy environment on land and in the sea, they also create thriving places to live, work and visit, which is why we have some of the best beaches in the UK and a vibrant economy. Our public polling discovered that 87% of people thought that beach users had a responsibility to keep beaches clean and litter free. The Marlboro are fantastic supporters of Jurassic Coast Girls Football Club, the areas only dedicated Girls Football Club, based at Wey Valley School. The club have teams for all primary school aged girls including many Marlboro employee’s children and is run by one of our Shift Managers Nathan Wood. The Marlboro are huge supporters of Zack Alexander. Zack is one of Dorset’s favourite host & presenter. Formally the Breakfast Show host on Weymouth & Portland’s AIR 107.2 he has now gone solo hosting various festivals & events across the country; coming in contact with many incredible musicians & stars. He is the resident host of ‘Quayside Music Festival’. An incredible event put on by our neighbours ‘Rendezvous’ every bank holiday weekend. Make sure you check out his social media: @ZackAlexander93
We do like to support a charitable cause here at the Marlboro. As well as our Charity Golf Day and supporting the causes above, the team have also been involved in Movember raising several hundred pounds for the Mens Prostate & Testicular Cancer Charity. We have also had many staff members take part in charitable events. The last few years have seen manager Shaun Hatton, Lloyd Hatton & Sam Dalkins take part in the Weymouth & Portland Lions Club Christmas Day Harbour Swim. In 2013 one of our Shift Managers Nathan Wood ran the Virgin London Marathon in support of another local charity Weldmar Hospicecare Trust raising over £3000 in the process. The Marlboro Restaurant is also very supportive of the RNLI and has maintained a charity collection pot on the counter of the takeaway since we first opened. The Marlboro Restaurant has also had a long association with Weymouth Golf Club. It currently sponsors the 14th Hole at the Annual Charity Golf Week. “Weymouth Golf Club Charity Week is held every August and raises funds for local charities and good causes in the Weymouth and Portland area. We are very grateful for the generous support of all the hole sponsors and the programme advertisers, without whom these events would not be possible“. From being home shirt sponsors in 1993 we have always maintained an advertising board at the ground. The Marlboro Restaurant was founded on the 4th of June 1974 by Ray and Clive Johnson and their friend Len Kirby. It is still run today by the second & third generation of the Johnson family. To celebrate our 40th Anniversary we staged a Charity Golf Day & Dinner at Weymouth Golf Club on Monday 2nd June. It has now been confirmed that Marlboro Restaurant Founders Ray & Len will be joining us for dinner & presenting the prizes!!! There are some fantastic prizes including its rumoured the chance to win a round of golf around the coveted Remedy Oak Golf Club. Entry is now closed!
